  • Overview

    The Accounting Policy & Research Manager serves as the company’s technical accounting subject matter expert with responsibility for all technical accounting matters (significant contracts, transactions and new accounting pronouncements) and assists in making key accounting policy decisions. This role provides technical accounting expertise and knowledge with respect to bank reporting and US GAAP rules and maintains oversight over the adoption and compliance with those policies. This role will partner with all other parts of Finance, Legal, External Auditors, and the business to ensure that financial reporting impacts are appropriately considered in conjunction with strategic business decisions.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide technical expertise in multiple areas of accounting, including independent research and memo completion on complex technical accounting matters to support key accounting decisions
    • Lead the implementation of new accounting and reporting requirements, including the new revenue recognition and the leasing standards
    • Perform technical accounting reviews of new and/or significant and unusual transactions and inform management of identified impacts in a timely manner.
    • Monitor standard setting bodies (FASB, etc.) for proposed accounting standards that may impact the Company and interpret the effects on the organization
    • Lead or partner with senior finance and business leaders to identify and evaluate the accounting impacts of proposed transactions
    • Responsible for accounting for mergers and acquisitions, accounting for investments, joint ventures and other non-controlling interests
    • Ensure that financial records are maintained in compliance with US GAAP and with internal policies and procedures.
    • Benchmark peer companies on accounting practices and to help identify best practices
    • Assist in the coordination of the external audit of the Company’s financial statements including but not limited to preparing support schedules and managing open/action item lists pertaining to the audit
    • Partner to the Controller in the ownership and documentation of company accounting policies
    • Assist with ad-hoc projects

    Qualifications

    • Experience sourcing and applying technical accounting guidance that cover such topics as Variable Interest Entities, Purchase Accounting/Business Combination Accounting, Revenue Recognition (ASC 606/605), Leasing Accounting, Debt Modification, Consolidation/Equity Method/Joint Ventures, etc..
    • High-level analytical skills with exceptional follow-up and sense of urgency
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
    • Personal commitment to integrity, achievement of departmental and business results and outstanding customer service, both internal and external
    • Ability to partner effectively across functions and levels
    • Strong computer and business solution software skills

     

     

    REQUIRED CREDENTIALS/SKILLS:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • CPA
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 3 years of experience in public accounting;
    • Strong knowledge of US GAAP;
    • Strong technical accounting research skills and technical writing abilities;
    • Understanding of internal control policies and procedures
    • Prefer experience with Big 4 or national/regional accounting firm, with focus on audit/assurance/consulting
